The Battle Against The Decline Of Moral Values

The battle against the decline of moral values by world leaders has never ever been fruitful. In fact, most of the world leaders themselves are corrupt, and the world, therefore, cannot learn from them to affect a change. Some rulers, politicians, talk about HIV/AIDS and poverty eradication as a means of securing the respect and confidence of society, and advancing their own worldly interest. Thus, they seek to cover all their unrighteous transactions under a profession of “fighting the decline of the moral values.”

All the noise about HIV/AIDS and sophisticated poverty eradication policies of world leaders have proved futile. Why? If you care to ask! The answer is simple: They are using wrong antidote for the cure of this worldwide menace. This worldwide menace is illustrated in microcosm by the situation at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, Ghana.

Our fact-finding trip to Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra, among commercial sex workers revealed about 80% of the commercial sex workers to have been trapped by lack of employment as a result of lack of employable skills and/or appreciable academic qualifications to get them employed. Asking as to whether they would stop should there be a better alternative, about 75% responded yes, while 5% could not give any positive response and asked that they sleep over the matter. 20% also were found to be involved in the work for pleasure, adding that they are able to have sex with 2-4 men per night. Our team of committed evangelists, pastors, prophets, church planters and teachers, had a thorough discussion on this and, after much prayer, concluded that if someone could have sex with about 2-4 men per night, such must have been compelled by evil forces and/or some spiritual influence.

To tackle this situation from the right direction, TCSB is embarking on evangelism among commercial sex workers at Kwame Nkrumah Circle. We have also gone to the Ghana Statistical Department for HIV/AIDS control for detailed number of people involved in commercial sex work, the age group, and strategic locations.

TCSB has devised a tactful way around to ensure that we combine the evangelism with free skill-training programmes. We believe that, we cannot only ask them to stop the commercial sex work, knowing fully well through our fact-finding trip that most of them do it to sustain themselves economically. We need to provide a better alternative so that those whose hope of survival rest on this immoral act could get something doing for economic productivity. We strongly believe the power of the gospel will break the spiritual background of this immoral act and releases them from that enslavement to work as agents of God’s kingdom, in service, leadership and excellence.

In addition, TCSB will be evangelising among street children and group them to also undergo training for economic productivity. Many of the youth in Ghana leave their villages for Accra with the view to finding greener pastures for economic productivity. Most of these youth, lacking employable skills and appreciable academic qualifications, find that the hope of pursuing such visions are not there, and consequently, get involved in arm robbery, drugs, prostitution, and other evils as such. TCSB will evangelise, simultaneously, among street children, and the power of the gospel of Christ will set them free from being in conflict with normal life into conformity with generally accepted codes.

Long-term vision of TCSB is to establish a Christian community, where the commercial sex workers and street children who come to the knowledge of Christ could stay, build their faith and develop their developing Christian attitudes, while being equipped with employable skills and appreciable educational qualifications for economic productivity. Thereafter, they would be sent to their friends in similar situations to evangelise among them and use their personal lives as examples of transformational power of Christ, to encourage others to come to the saving-knowledge of Christ. Interestingly enough, we indirectly fight HIV/AIDS and poverty, in a more powerful and fitting way.
